Wade Hampton Anthony jr ("Hamp") who was born 1835, died 12 May 1864 at Bloody Angle, Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, VA. Private in Co A, 16th GA Vol. Inf. Regt. This stone is "in Memory of" because the bodies of most of the men at Bloody Angle were not identifiable since the battle had been so fierce and lasted so long. His body is in an unmarked grave in VA.

Hi--I was looking at the site for Wade Hampton Anthony Jr ("Hamp") who was born 1835. I assume the photo of the grave ("in memory of") is for Hamp, the son of Wade Hampton Anthony Sr,"Waid." This man, born in 1835, died on 12May1864 at the Bloody Angle, Battle of Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia. His father died on the date on the gravestone at Chimborazo Hospital, in 1863. He has a grave in Oakwood Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Since the battle at Bloody Angle resulted in a terrible mass of unknown and mutilated bodies, this stone "in memory of" was probably placed for Hamp, not his father. The military records for each man are mixed up and each man has incorrect information on his records in the archives, but both served in Company A, 16th GA Vol Inf. Regt.
