Ray served in the 5th Marine Division of the U.S. Marine Corp in WWII, where he was a part of the liberating force in Iwo Jima. He went on to serve in the National Guard as a citizen-soldier while earning a B.S. from Louisiana State College. A noted Geophysicist with Delta Exploration, he worked in countries all over the world. He later founded RolDri and invented products that revolutionized the tennis industry. He lived in Houston/Katy for 35 years before moving to Fredericksburg with his wife, Brenda, in 2004. Ray, a life-long Baptist, supported missionary efforts all over the world. He was a member of First Baptist of Katy, and, later, Faith Baptist Church of Fredericksburg. He is survived by his wife, Brenda G. Newman; his son, Dr. Michael Ray Newman and wife Peggy, of Katy; daughters, Jan D. Guerrero and husband Donnie of Katy, and Barbara N. Townsend and husband Ed of Grove, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
