Daughter of Elizabeth & Jacob Mahr (both of German descent.) From a son's biography: In the summer of 1845, Philip, Mary, and their ten children started for their new home in Indiana in a covered wagon drawn by a team of oxen. It was necessary to cut their way through the woods in many places. The oldest children walked most of the way because there was not enough room for them in the one wagon. During their long trek the subsisted on corn bread and wild turkey.

Missing children:

Susanna, b 15 Nov 1832, died bef 1914. Married Henry Shafer 4 Jan 1866 in DeKalb Co, IN.

William, b abt 1836, died bef 1840

Mary Ann, b 26 Oct 1838, d 5 July 1935. Married David Liby 1 Dec 1861 in DeKalb Co, IN. Had 5 children: Leroy, abt 1863; Sylvester, abt 1867; Elza, abt 1870; Nettie, abt 1872; Della, abt 1876.
