This is our family story about John Sanderson. He was a British soldier during the War of 1812 he probably was an Englishman. He was discharged in Canada in 1817 and was on his way back to England. Traveling with a companion from Canada through New York, USA, the shortest route home to England. His traveling companion stole everything he owned and left him for dead. The family of Stanton Covey found him and took care of him. He then entered into an apprenticeship to the family and later married a daughter named Clara (Clarissa) Covey 7 Sep 1823 at Antwerp, New York by a Rev Noah Barrell. He moved to Michigan in 1850. Likewise, he is listed in the 1850 Census as living in Woodbridge, Twp. Hillsdale Co., Mi and he is also in St. Lawrence Co. NY in the 1850 census.
