She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Dr. V. Atwell Motley of Glade Spring, Virginia; brothers, Dr. Roy C. and wife, Rebecca, of Norfolk and Charlottesville, Randall and wife, Jamie, of Crystal River, Florida, and Dr. Burton and wife, Dr. Tracy, of Cullowhee, North Carolina; and nieces, Molly Ogle of Atlanta, Georgia, and Katharine Ogle of Seattle, Washington.
She was the wife and law partner of the late Mark B. Peterson.
Gail grew up in Bristol, Virginia. She received an Associates Degree from Virginia Highlands Community College and B.A in English in 1982 and Law Degree in 1985 from the University of Virginia. She was a member of the Virginia and Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association and first practiced law in Abingdon, Virginia, and later in Charlottesville with the Musselman Law Firm. Most of her career was spent at the firm she formed with her husband, Ogle and Peterson.
Gail was a champion for common people in need of help, especially the disabled. She also successfully argued cases before the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Gail and her family are deeply grateful for the compassionate care of her doctor Sharon Esau and attendants.
A memorial service in Charlottesville will be held in March.
