Accidentally Shot Himself
Francis Barham, who accidentally shot himself in the leg while cleaning a shotgun on Monday, at his ranch near Black Butte, died yesterday morning from loss of blood and his body was brought to this city during the afternoon and is now at McAllister's undertaking rooms.
Barham had taken down the gun to prepare it for use, after it had lain idle for several months, and was not aware that it was loaded. The weapon was hammerless, and in making an examination of it, he accidentally touched the trigger. The full charge was sent into the side of his right leg, a few inches above the knee. Every effort was made to stop the flow of blood until a physician could be summoned, but it was ineffectual. He died from loss of blood 12 hours after being shot.
The deceased was about 40 years old and leaves a wife and three children. He was a member of the Carpenter's Union, under the auspices of which the funeral will be held as soon as a response is received from the dead man's father, who lives in Iowa.
