John worked with with Col. Isaac E Barwick, Cinderella's (his wife) brother, in the mercantile and milling business.
He supervised a number of Col. Barwick's interest in St Catherine, Perry, Pemberton, Carson and Wimauma and Manatee. He eventually went into business for himself and the family settled in Wimauma.
The Bradfords had seven children only two John and Sadie attained adulthood. Except for their daughter Sarah all of the family are buried in Greenwood Cem in Wildwood,
