Katherine Mime Lynch Hymas
SHARON, Idaho

Katherine Mime Lynch Hymas, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2001, from natural causes at her home in Sharon, Idaho, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 9, 1915, at Grays Lake, Idaho, to Frank and Flora Lovis Cregger Lynch. She was the third child in a family of five. While growing up she lived in several places, spending most of her time working in the beet fields.

Katherine had eight years of education in a classroom, but that did not hinder her any, for she was not afraid to keep learning.

She married Reed S. Hymas June 9, 1932, in Pocatello, Idaho, and four years later they moved to Bear Lake, and spent their lives farming in Sharon. They raised four children there. Katherine raised chickens and sold eggs to stores in town. Once a year the family had what she called a “family outing,” and they would prepare the chickens for the freezer.

Katherine was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the age of 8. In 1937, Reed, Katherine and their children were sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Later on, she spent a good deal of her time serving in the church in many different positions. She enjoyed making numerous quilts and other fancy work as well.

She loved giving to others, and was very generous with whatever she had. Katherine was a great cook and a loving mother and grandmother, and loved each and every one of them. After her husband passed away, she remained on the farm in Sharon for 22 years up to the present.

Katherine is survived by three sons, Keith (Doris) Hymas, Ferris (Deanna) Hymas, both of Montpelier, Terry (Judy) Hymas of Sharon; one daughter, Beverly (Richard) Barako of Montpelier; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, Virgie, Margaret and Frankie May, and one brother, Bud. Katherine was very loving and caring, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 18 at 1 p.m. in the Liberty LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call that morning from 11 a.m. until 12:45 p.m., and burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, with services under the direction of Matthews Mortuary of Montpelier.
