SPANISH AMERICAN WAR (PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION) AND WORLD WAR I VETERAN

Carl Edward Buckler was born August 27, 1882 in Indiana to William H. and Anna (Nicholson) Buckler.

MILITARY RECORD:
ARMY - Enlisted 22 Aug 1899 at Indianapolis; discharged Oct. 19, 1900 at Presidio, California.
NAVY - Enlisted 8 Oct 1912, discharged 7 Oct 1916; enlisted 18 Oct 1916, discharged 31 Aug 1920; enlisted
10 Dec 1920, discharged 22 Sep 1932; to Retired List September 1942 after 30 years service.

Mr. Buckner also indicated Spanish American War service.

He passed away January 4, 1961 at the Home Hospital. He was 78 years of age.

Navy and Spanish-American war veteran, Carl Edward Buckler, died last night in the Retsil hospital of the Washington Veterans home. Death came after an extended illness. He was 78. Mr. Buckler, born Aug. 7, 1882, in Franklin county, Ind., joined the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American war. After his discharge from the army, he worked as a machinist and traveled throughout the United States. He married Miss Lois Taylor [Oct. 8] 1916 at Amity, Ore., four years after he had joined the U. S. navy in which he served for 30 years. [His wife died June 20, 1954].
After retirement from the navy he settled in Seattle, and moved to Retsil in 1958.
He was a member of the United Spanish War Veterans McKinley camp 33, Retsil.
Survivors include four sons, Frank of Aberdeen,Phillip with the U. S. army, Richard of Emerson, N.J., and Eugene, and four grandchildren. Final services will be announced by Pendleton-Gilchrist, Port Orchard.
