Richard M. Lieneck, 78, a longtime West Islip resident and former New York City fire batallion chief, died Saturday of natural causes at Consolation Nursing Home in West Islip where he worked.
Mr.Lieneck was employed by the New York City Fire Department for 22 years, serving on fire boats and later as chief of the 33nd Batallion in Brooklyn before retiring in 1967. He then became a security guard for the Consolation Nursing Home.
Mr. Lieneck was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop McDonnell Council and the Anchor Club, a fire department charity organization. He was an avid golfer and an amateur artist.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; two daughters, Kathleen Bevilacqua of St. James and Rosemarie Felton of Columbia, Md.; three sons, Richard Jr. of Lindenhurst, Daniel of Succasunna, N.J. and Frank of Staten Island; a brother, Robert of New Jersey; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visiting, 2-4:30 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m. today at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, 1225 Montauk Hwy., West Islip. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Babylon; burial, Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn.
