Charles E. Whittaker

Charles E. Whittaker, 57, 410 North Morgan Street, passed away at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis Wednesday at 5:25 p.m. after he was admitted 6 days ago. Born in Rush County on Feb 15 1919, he was the son of James Roy and Mabel Winkler Whittaker. He married Mildred Lee on Oct 27 1943 and she survives. He had worked at Howell Brothers in Rushville. He was a member of the 11th Street Church of Christ. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII fighting in North Africa and Italy. Surviving with his wife was his mother, Mabel Whittaker, Rushville; Five sons, Fred, Mike, Ed, Rick and Scott, all of Rushville; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Lavone) Paugh, R.R. 7, Mrs. Tom (Candy) Icenogle, Rushville; three brothers, Richard and Howard, Rushville, and Leroy, Indianapolis; four sisters, Mrs. William (Virginia) Land, Mrs. Delbert (Doris) Frazier, Mrs. John (Mary Lee) Messer, all of Rushville; Mrs. Arnel (Kathryn) Lee, Sunman, and 12 grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Moster and Sons Mortuary with Robert Taylor and Charles Wooley officiating. Burial is in the East Hill Cemetery in Rushville. Friends called at the Mortuary after 3 p.m. on Friday.
