Galesburg - Patricia 'Patty' Harlan, 50, 1402 Monmouth Blvd., Galesburg, and formerly of Abingdon, died at 6:39 p.m. April 16, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous three-year fight against cancer.

She was born Jan. 10, 1959, in Monmouth to Thomas Sr. and Lucy (Starkey) Johnson. She married her high school sweetheart Jack C. Harlan Sr. on March 13, 1976, at Avon Gospel Chapel. They were married 33 wonderful years.

Patty enjoyed raising her children and spending time together as a family. She was an avid church attendee. Through her sickness she brought her whole family and members of the community closer to our savior Jesus Christ.

Patty graduated from Abingdon High School in 1977. She was a member of First Church of the Open Bible in Galesburg.

Surviving is her loving husband, Jack Sr. of Galesburg; her mother, Lucy Johnson of Abingdon; her children, Jack C. Jr. (and Frances) Harlan of Knoxville, and Patrick (and Jennifer) Harlan, Justin Harlan, Brett Harlan and Brittney Harlan, all of Galesburg; her brothers, Thomas Jr. (and Leona) Johnson of Abingdon, Michael (and Patti) Johnson of rural Berwick, James (and Vicky) Johnson of Abingdon, Craig (and Kathy) Johnson of Alexis and Steve Johnson in Alaska; and her sisters, Virginia (John) O'Reilly of Abingdon, Phyllis (and Kevin) Skinner of Dunlap and Christina (and Todd) O'Halleran in Iowa. She also is survived by nine grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas D. Johnson Sr.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 20, at First Church of the Open Bible, 521 W. Losey St., Galesburg. Pastor Ted Gillum will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service Monday at the church. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Brittney Nicole Harlan college fund.
