MILLER, COL. DIXIE M. - United States Army Reserve (Retired) - age 85 of Lenoir City, passed away early Sunday, August 22, 2004 at NHC HealthCare, Ft.. Sanders. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A veteran of World War II, he saw combat action in Germany and Czechoslovakia and served in the occupation of Japan. He was drafted as a private and retired from the United States Army Reserve as a Colonel. He later served many years as the Veteran Officer in Loudon County. He was a 50 years + member and past president of the Lenoir City Rotary Club. Also, he was one of the Original Directors of the Loudon County Boys and Girls Club. A native of Union County, graduate of Horace Maynard High School class of 1937 and the University of Tennessee College of Agriculture class of 1942, he taught at Lenoir City High School for 33 years and was a lifetime member of the NEA. Preceded in death by parents Robert Eli (Dixie) and Naomi Cook Miller, sisters Ruby Baker, Opal Hale, Maude Bartolett, Edna Palmer and nephew Paul Palmer. Survived by wife Nep McCosh Miller of Columbus, GA sisters Goldie Miller and Bonnie Miller of Lenoir City, Winnie Cross of Albany, KY, Wilma Maples of Gatlingburg, Naomi Barker of Columbia brother Glen Miller of Grand Junction, CO step children and spouses: Sam and Barbara Warren, Beth and Ric Shean all of Columbus, GA, Mike and Virginia Warren of Fulsher, TX several step-grand and great grand children several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to everyone at NHC HealthCare - Fort Sanders for all the care you gave Dixie and also to Juanita Valentine, special weekend caregiver. The family will receive friends from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Click officiating. Members of the Lenoir City Rotary Club will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in Big Barren Cemetery, Union County, Maynardville, TN. Military honors will be conferred by East Tn. Veterans Honor Guard.
