MRS. J. E. MEAD, FORMER LOCAL RESIDENT, DIES

Mrs. James E. (Myra Clark) Mead of Decatur, Michigan, member of a once prominent Rensselaer family, died in Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at eight o'clock last night a few hours after she re-enrolled there to undergo a post-surgery checkup. Mrs. Mead underwent surgery a month ago and apparently was making satisfactory progress. Soon after returning to the hospital she was stricken by a heart seizure and death followed within a short time.

Mrs. Mead was born in Rensselaer September 9, 1885, the daughter of Ezra L. Clark and Myrtie Zerilda Osborne) Clark. She was educated in the local schools and shortly after her high school days she was married in Crown Point to James E. Mead of Hammond. Mr. and Mrs. Mead observed the sixty-fourth anniversary of their marriage on July 6, this year.

For many years Mr. and Mrs. Mead resided in Hammond, but since his retirement years they had made summer residence in Decatur and in the winter months either in Florida or California or St. Louis. They maintained residence in Hammond the past winter.

Surviving Mrs. Mead with her husband are five daughters, Mrs. Wanda Maya of Hammond, Mrs. Genevieve Newkerk of Santa Clara, California, Mrs. Elizabeth Heineman of Saginaw, Mighican, Mrs. Lucille Krater of Calumet City, Illinois, and Mrs. Virginia Boling of Vandalia, Missouri, twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Howard B. Clark of Rensselaer is a nephew of Mrs. Mead. Mrs. Mead was the last survivor of the original Clark family.
