W. T. Hamilton Rites To Be Held Thursday

Services for Walter T. Hamilton, 61, of 1238 University, who was killed by an accidental gunshot Monday, will be conducted at the Waitsburg Christian Church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Tom Stratton and Rev. W. W. Switzer will officiate. Interment will be in the Waitsburg Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Waitsburg Masonic Lodge.

He was born July 14, 1895 in Goldendale. Shortly after his marriage to Ann Henshaw in that city in 1917 he volunteered for service on World War I and served in the Field Artillery.

After the war he and Mrs. Hamilton farmed for several years at Goldendale. In 1928 they moved to Arlington, Ore., where he was in the general merchandise business a year. In 1929 they moved to Waitsburg where he was in business until his retirement in 1947.

Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton moved to Walla Walla upon retirement and constructed the Walla Walla Medical Center on Birch Street and managed it until his death.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Goldendale. He served on the Waitsburg City Council and also as mayor.

He was a past commander of the American Legion Post No. 35 at Waitsburg and was a member of the Masonic Lodge there, also the York Rite bodies and Shrine Club of Walla Walla and the El Katif Shrine of Spokane.

He also belonged to the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Waitburg, the Walla Walla Elks Lodge and at the time of his death was vice commander of the Walla Walla Boat Club and an official member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Survivors are: his wife, Anne; daughter, Mrs. James (Joan) Stonecipher; grandchildren, Julie and Jimmie Stonecipher; brothers, Orville and James of Sunnyside; and sisters, Mrs. Minnie Watson and Mrs. Carl Crooks of Goldendale.
