On Friday evening a gathering of the rural mail carriers of Thayer County and the present and past employees of the Carleton postoffice met at the C. D. Baker home, by invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Milt Frank, to commend Mr. Baker on his long service as a rural carrier on the eve of his retirement.

The evening was spent with various card games and a program as follows:
Piano solos, by Eugene Shipley.
Readings, by Mrs. Hall, "Land of Beginning Again" and "When I Am Old."
Vocal solos, Ona Frank, "Lassie O' Mine" and "Our Yesterdays." accompanied at the piano by Robert Graves.

In behalf of the carriers and co-workers, Mr. Morris, in a few well chosen and appropriate words, presented Mr. Baker with a beautiful white and yellow gold chain and cigar lighter engraved "30 Years R. F. D. Service."

Delicious refreshments of ice cream, angel food cake and coffee were served by Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Frank.

The guests were, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Shearer and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brown of Hebron; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Snyder and Mr. and Mrs. T. Bowman of Bruning; Mr. and Mrs. John Wolcott and Mr. and Mrs. Pat Wall and three children of Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Frank.

C. D. Baker, who had spent past four years in the Blue Valley Home at Hebron, passed away Friday evening at the age of 88 years.

He came to Carleton at an early age and spent most of his 88 years here.

He was one of Carleton's rural mail carriers.

His wife passed away seven years ago.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Monday afternoon.

Relatives here attending the funeral services for Clark D. Baker last Monday were Mrs. Bess Shipley of Topeka, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Graves of Manhattan, Kans., Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Edwards and son Glen and Mrs. Elvin Hobson of Hardy and Mrs. Don Kayle of Crete.
