KENNETH ALBERT FARRELL (COACH)

Kenneth Albert Farrell, beloved husband, faher, grandfather, brother and friend, died Feb. 8, 1994, in Murray, Utah after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Nov. 14, 1922, in Murray, to Albert Thomas and Veva Ann Trott Farrell. Married Arleen Richardson on Nov. 20, 1950, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Graduated from Murray High School where he was active in student affairs and excelled in athletics. Attended U of U and lettered in athletics. Served in World War II, 75th Infantry Division, in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns; awarded the Victory Medal Arms of City of Colmar. Fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Played on Army Football Team in France at the end of the war. Returned to Utah State and was an active member of Sigma Chi Faternity and Professional Education Fraternity. Played football and basketball and participated in Utah State University's first two bowl games. Graduated from Utah State University.

Coached football and basketball at Murray High School for eight years. Provided opportunities for youth to participate in athletics through Salt Lake County Recreation. He was at Olympus High School 31 years as head basketball coach, golf coach, math instructor and counselor. He was an avid golfer and winner of numerous tournaments and awards.

"Our Coach" was dedicated to everyone he loved, taught and coached. He was an inspiration to his family, athletes, students and friends.

Was an active member of the LDS Church, and held numerous church positions. He shared and cherished a strong testimony. Past member of American Legion, Murray Lions Club, officer and member of Old Timers Athletic Assoc. Received several coaching-of-the-year awards and inducted into Utah Coaches Hall of Fame. Life member of NEA and UEA.

Survived by: Wife, Arleen; daughter, Kim Farrell Barton, Yorba Linda, Calif.; son, Randy Kenneth Farrell, wife Lisa, Bountiful; six grandsons, two granddaughters; brother, Col. Robert H. Farrell, Ogden; sister, Marjorie Richardson, Salt Lake.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 12, 1994, at 2 p.m., Murray Homestead Ward, 5735 So. Fashion Blvd. Friends may call Friday, 6 to 9 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State St., and Saturday, 1 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. Interment, Murray City Cemetery.

Appreciation to special doctors, nurses, friends, Hospice and Community Nursing Service.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the coach, Ken Farrell, Athletic Scholarship Fund, First Interstate Bank, 4920 So. State, Murray, Utah, 84107.
