Washington Perry Abshier was born in Illinois on June 23, 1831, and was the son of Thomas Abshier and Nancy Ann Perryman Abshier. He married Margaret Susan Inman on July 12, 1859, in Gallatin County, Illinois, and they had three children:
1) Curran Abshier, born September 1859
2) Anna Abshier, born ca. 1861
3) Mary Abshier, born September 1862
Margaret Susuan Inman Abshier died on March 22, 1864. Washington then married Virginia Elizabeth Harvey, and they had five children:
4) Emma Abshier, born October 1866
5) Lelia Abshier, born April 1870
6) Alvah Abshier, born April 1873
7) Lowell Abshier, born February 1875
8) Bunn Lee Abshier, born September 1878
The family eventually moved to Missouri. A newspaper account, dated December 16, 1879, relates information about Washington Abshier's departure from Illinois for Missouri, and it reads as follows: "Washington P. Abshier and family will leave here on Thursday for Tipton, Missouri, where he will take charge of a hotel there. The best wishes of a large number of friends and acquaintances go with Mr. Abshier and family to their new home."
Washington Perry Abshier died December 9, 1917.
