DEATH OF TIMOTHY CONNELL
Well Known Carthage Man is a Victim of Cancer


Timothy Connell, 72 years old and a resident of southwest Missouri all his life,
died at 11 o'clock last night at the Connell residence, 412 South Garrison
avenue. He had been in poor health for three years and had been bedfast for
three weeks, suffering from cancer of the face.
Timothy Connel was born near Mt. Vernon, MO., May 19, 1844. He saw three years
service in the federal army during the Civil War. He was a member of Company B,
Fifteenth Missouri Cavalry. September 25, 1866 he married Miss Mary L. Hinshaw.
Eleven children were born to the union. She died August 14, 1895.
Mr. Connell has lived in Carthage for 16 years. He engaged in the contracting
business while in Carthage.
February 22, 1900 he married Mrs. Jennie Bays, who survives.
Mr. Connel was an active member of the Stanton Post, G.A.R. During his
membership he held many of the offices of the post. He was a member of the
Baptist church.
Besides the wife the following children survive: James W. Connell of Dewey, OK.;
John W. Connel of Red Oak, MO.; Mrs. F. E. Hunter of Miller, MO.; Mrs. W. E.
Robins of Joplin; Mrs. Eva Whipple of Joplin; Mrs. Arra Patton of Carthage; and
Clarence T. and Blani* [see footnote] of Indiana. All of the children except
the last mentioned two have visited Mr. Connell since he has been bedfast.
Three brothers and two sisters also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the residence.
The G.A.R. will have charge.
Immediately after the service the family will leave by motor for Miller, MO.
with the body, where burial will be beside his first wife.
