Peter was the son of Philip & Kezia (Curtis) Young & he grew up on a family farm in Shelby County, OH. Peter Miller Young was probably named after the Peter Miller, JP, who conducted his parents' marriage ceremony and who appears to have once been a "neighbor" of father Philip Young on the 1820 Federal Census for Madison Township, Pickaway County, OH. On April 29, 1852, Peter was married to Martha Ann Porter in Auglaize County, OH, said ceremony having been conducted by the Rev. R. D. Oldfield. Peter & Martha eventually took up residence on a family farm in Jackson Township, Shelby County, OH. The couple reportedly parented six children between the years of 1853 & 1864: Samuel Bradburn Young (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), Sarah Elizabeth Young (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), Alice (a.k.a. "Allie") Orilla Young (also buried at Wesley Cemetery), Mary Alice Young, Kezia Lorada Young, & Albert Wilber Young (also buried at Wesley Cemetery). Following the 1879 death of wife Martha, Peter was married to the widow Anna (a.k.a. "Annie") E. Cummins. The ceremony was conducted in Shelby County by the Rev. David S. Rinehart. Sixty-eight-year-old Peter Young appeared in the census data for a final time on the 1900 Federal Census. He was then living in Jackson Township with second wife Anna. Peter reported his occupation as "minister."
