William O. Apperson, 75, of DeLand passed away 9:30 am April 12, 2009 at his family residence in DeLand. Services will be at 10 am Thursday at the Trigg and Calvert Chapel, DeLand, with Rev. Jerrry Hayward officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Burial Park Cemetery, Urbana, with military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm at the Trigg and Calvert Chapel, DeLand. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, DeLand Christian Church or donor's choice. William was born July 20, 1933, in Urbana to Roscoe W Martin and Lydia E (Warren) Martin and later adopted by Love O. "Tub" and Carrie Apperson. He married Janet F Smith on Sept. 4, 1956. Survivors include Terri (Dan) Wikoff, DeLand, Tom (Kathy) Apperson, Monticello, and Christie (Scott) Dobbs, DeLand; six grandchildren, Jessica (Shawn) Rever, Dalton City, Stephanie Julius, Champaign, Tommy Apperson, Atwood, Michael Apperson, Monticello, Gabe Wikoff and Libby Wikoff, DeLand; one stepdaughter, Joy Aguilera, DeLand; and one step-grandson, Tyler. He was proceeded in death by his parents, a brother, John F Apperson, and a sister, Juanita (Apperson) Pfeffer.

He was a graduate of Mahomet High School and served in the U.S. Army for the Military Police and as a surveyor with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He served as one of Mahomet's first police officers and was retired from Kraft Foods of Champaign. He enjoyed serveral hobbies including coin collecting, model cars, music, and art. He will be loved and missed by his children and grandchildren.
