Barry Holt, 61, of Hartshorne, died Monday, April 13, 2009, at McAlester Regional Health Center. Memorial services were Tuesday at Jackie's Alibi in Hartshorne. Arrangements were under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester. Born June 26, 1947, in Dow, he was the son of Joe Bill and Anna Mae Baggs Holt. His family frequently moved around during his early years until he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1966. He left the Navy briefly after his first tour and moved back to the McAlester area where he married Ofreda Labor in June 1971, in McAlester. Shortly after their marriage, he reenlisted in the Navy. His career in the Navy lasted 21 years. During that period, he attained the rate of aviation structural mechanic first class. He spent his sea duty attached to air squadrons aboard aircraft carriers and was a Vietnam veteran. After he retired on Nov. 30, 1987, he returned to Pittsburg County and made his home in Hartshorne, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3085 in Hartshorne. He enjoyed watching high school sports, fishing with his grandchildren and watching the History channel on television. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Bryan Collins, North Beach, Md., and Rachel and Allen Wollet, Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Austin Collins, North Beach, Md., Alyssa Collins, North Beach, Md., Charlie Clark, Austin, Texas, and Gage Clark, Austin, Texas; brothers, Charles Holt, of Hartshorne, Shorty Holt, of Adamson, Jerry Holt, of Hartshorne, and Ted Holt, Buffalo Mountain, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Anna Holt, and a brother, Kenny Holt.
