Jeremiah Sullivan was a justice of the Indiana Supreme Court from 1836–1846, and coined the name Indianapolis for the Indiana state capital. He was the first criminal court judge for Jefferson County, Indiana. His son Jeremiah C. Sullivan, was a Union Army civil war general.
