Roger Victor Wardenburg was born on Sunday; April 2, 1944 in Marengo; Iowa County, Iowa. He was the son of: Victor and Loretta (Meinke) Wardenburg. Roger was raised in Williamsburg; Iowa County, Iowa where he graduated with the class of 1962. He attended Iowa State University before entering the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Iowa. On Friday; February 24, 1967 he was united in marriage to Karen Geery in Nashville; Davidson County, Tennessee. To this union three children were born: Jennifer, Victoria and Darrick. Roger and Karen lived in Cedar Rapids; Linn County, Iowa where Roger managed the Giant Store for 15 years. The couple moved their family to Knoxville; Marion County, Iowa in 1984. Roger and Karen worked together as Groundskeepers at the Knoxville Raceway for 18 years and drove school bus for the Knoxville School District. For the last several years he has driven a semi for Brooks Trucking. He also served as a Marion County Sheriff Reserve Deputy for many years.
Over the years Roger has enjoyed camping and traveling with his family, especially enjoying historical points of interest. He enjoyed large family gatherings and loved the annual family camp-out in Lancaster; Clark County, Missouri. He liked golfing, playing cribbage, leather working, Native American History, black raspberry & mushroom hunting and motorcycling. He was at peace when planting trees etc. and enjoyed caring for the plantings. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Marion County Historical Society, Marion County Sportsmen's Club, Iowa State Reserve Law Officer's Association and the Marion County Sheriff's Reserve. Roger Victor Wardenburg, age 63, passed away on Tuesday; October 16, 2007 at the Pella Hospice Comfort House in Pella; Marion County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His wife: Karen. His children: Jennifer (Rob) Taylor of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Victoria Wardenburg of San Antonio; Bexar County, Texas and Darrick (Christine Layng) of Rockford; Winnebago County, Illinois. His six grandchildren: Renée, Felicia (John), Phillip, Michelle, Clayton and Katherine "Kit". Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Allen Wardenburg. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday; October 19, 2007 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 10:00 a.m. on Saturday; October 20, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Iowa. Interment will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg, Iowa. Additional Services will be held at the Earl Glandorf residence, 2995 210th St., Homestead, Iowa at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Memorials in Roger's honor may be donated to the Trinity Lutheran Church and/or The Pella Comfort Hospice House in Pella, Iowa. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website.
