Co. A 15 Ind. Vol. - Aged 43yrs, 24dsAbout Brown, William R.

William R. Brown's father was William B. Brown and his step mother was Hester Campbell. Little is know of him before the 1850 census. And there is conflicting information on censuses on where he was born. He had an older sister, Cynthia, born about 1833, and half siblings, Margaret b. about 1846, David b. about 1849, and James b. about 1851.

1850 US census, he is living in Logan, Fountain County, Indiana with possibly a brother, Samuel M.(b:1839)and sister, Miriam (b:1842) in the home of Philip (b:1792,Rhode Island) and Miriam (b:1792 Rhode Island)Weaver. Also living there, is Mary Minier (b:1834). It states he is born in Ohio.

On the 1860 US census, William is still living with the Weavers in Attica Fountain County Indiana, however, Samuel has married Isabel Ward, 11 March, 1860, and they are living together in Washington Twp., Warren County. William is a farm laboror and born in Indiana. The 1860 census states Samuel is working as a miller and was born in Iowa.

William takes part in the Civil War, enlisting 14 June 1861 into the Indiana Reg. 15 Co A. He was wounded and captured at Stones River, Tenn. and was paroled in an exchange 10 Jan 1863. He was discharged 30 Nov. 1868.

He and Venia Moden are married Dec 10, 1865 and are living in Warren County on the 1870 US census, next door to William's brother, Samuel, and his wife,Isabel. Their occupation is Miller/Farmer. (note: Williams middle initial is wrongly indexed as "K".)and they are born in Ohio. William and Venia's children are Samuel (b:1867 or 1868), Elmer (b:1888) and infant (b:1870). Samuel and Isable's children are Sarah (b:1861), George (b: 1863), Evander (Everton) (b: 1869) and Bell (b:1870).

William died 20 March, 1877 and Venia Moden-Brown married Wallace Steadman 20 Jul, 1879.

On 1880 US census, I believe Samuel also has died and Isabel has remarried to John Whickar. They live next to Venia and Wallace Steadman and children are listed (step children) as Allie possible Bell Brown? (b:1870) and Evander Brown (b; 1866)

Venia and Wallace children are Charles (b:1880) and Grover (b: 1884). This is the first mention of Lizzie Brown who is 8 years old, born 1873 as stepdaughter of Wallace Steadman.
