NORMA M. WITT

Norma M. Witt, 68, died at home, May 30, 1994, following a 14-year battle with cancer.

She was born July 7, 1925, to Vernal L. and Chloe H. Meldrum. Married Allan J. Witt, in Chicago during 1944, prior to departure overseas. Marriage later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Graduated from Provo High and attended BYU, the U of U, Wright College in Chicago, and the Sherwood Music School. Also studied organ with Ron Richardson, organist and choirmaster of the All Saints Episcopal Church. Formerly employed by Security Title Co. During the past 35 years, she has been a private music teacher instructing hundreds of students in piano and organ techniques. Was an affiliated teacher of the Sherwood Music School. Helped to organize a volunteer music training program for students at the Longview Elementary School. Member of the Utah Music Teachers Association, the Utah Federation of Music Clubs and the American Guild of Organists. Served as vice president of the Salt Lake Chapter of UMTA in 1981-1982, and was president of the Sherwood Music Seminar held in Chicago during 1980.

Active member of the LDS Church. Served in various positions in the Primary, Young Women's and Sunday School organizations of the church. Was ward organist in the Murray 6th Ward and the Little Cottonwood 6th Ward. Also, was substitute organist for the St. Jude Catholic Maronite Church in Murray.

Survived by husband, Allan; three children, Craig (Deborah) Witt, of Spokane; Jay Rand (Laurie) Witt, San Francisco Bay Area; and Colleen (Greg) Hilton, Murray; seven grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Petersen; brothers, Leon H. Meldrum, Provo; Floyd A. Meldrum, Las Vegas. Preceded in death by parents and one grandson.

Special appreciation is expressed to Dr. William Sause, the wonderful staff of the Community Nursing Service, and her many friends during the difficult days of her final illness, for their care and concern.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 3, 1994 at 12 noon, in the Murray South Stake Center, 5735 South Fashion Blvd. (490 East). Friends may call Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St., and Friday 10-11:45 a.m. at the church. Interment: Murray City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests that gifts could be made in memory of Norma to CNS/VNA Foundation, 1370 So. West Temple, SLC 84115, to help others who may need special nursing care in their homes.
