John Franklin Alsip, 88, of Onarga died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Mr. Alsip was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Ogden, a son of J. Frank and Etta Osborn Alsip. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Scott on June 1, 1946, in Ogden. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2004.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Alsip of Onarga and Jeff (Debra) Alsip of Baraboo, Wis.; one daughter, Janet Meyer of Ft. Collins, Colo.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Ohde of Loveland, Colo., and Katie Skinner of Millikin, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both parents, five brothers and six sisters.

Mr. Alsip served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in England, France, Belgium and Italy. He entered into the service as an enlisted man and exited as a first lieutenant.

John was a Livestock Market News Reporter with the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture. He was a member of the Onarga United Methodist Church, Watseka Masonic Lodge 446 and a 50-year member of the Onarga American Legion. He loved fishing, camping, traveling and gardening.
