Johann Michael Hinneschied was born about 1674 at his parent's leased farmhouse at Naumburgerhof in Ginsweiler, Pfalz, Bayern, Germany. On November 4, 1698, at a Protestant ceremony in Reipolstkirchen, Johann Michael married Anna Catharina Schneider, daughter of Theobaldus Schneider and Anna Margaretha Jüng Schneider. The couple moved to Hohenöllen where they started their family, with four children born by 1706. In 1709, they left their home and joined thousands of their countrymen as part of the Great Palatine migration from Germany to Rotterdam, then on to London in the 6th Party of ships carrying "Poor Palatines" to England. In 1710, Michael's family set sail for New York on one of ten ships provided by Great Britain's Queen Anne. After serving about three years in NY Governor Hunter's Naval Stores Project, the Hinneschied/ Hendershot family left New York City via the Raritan River toward the Millstone River in Somerset County. After a time, Michael settled in the vicinity of White House near Potterstown and was present at the first meeting of the young German Lutheran Church community in 1714. He was an elder of the Rochgeway/Rockaway Lutheran Church (part of the history of the Zion Lutheran Church of New Germantown) built near Potterstown, New Jersey in 1730/31. Michael died at home one evening after receiving a visit from Pastor Weygand, who noted his visit in his published diary. We estimate that Michael may have died on the evening of Friday, January 17th, and was buried on Sunday, January 19, 1749, in the vicinity of Potterstown, in a church cemetery that disappeared over the years. His burial was recorded in Pastor Weygand's notes.
