Army Cpl. Michael J. Anaya 23, of Crestview, Fla.; died April 12, 2009 Serving During Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; died April 12 in Mosul, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He is survived by his parents, Carmelo Sr. and Cheryl Anaya; brother, Carmelo Anaya Jr. and fiancee Mary Rowe; sister, Trista Moffett and husband Tony; grandparents, Philip and Gwen Kile; nieces, Catalina Anaya, Jiana and Kaylee Moffett; nephews, DeMarkis, Camren and Christian. He died at age 23 in Bayji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. This was his second deployment to Iraq. Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents, Juan and Catalina Anaya.
