Rodney V. Schlosser, 56, Mandan, died Feb. 4, 2007, at Medcenter One Hospital, Bismarck. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Patrick Schumacher as the celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan, with full military honors provided by the VFW Post No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. There will be no visitation at the church on Thursday.
Rodney was born Aug. 29, 1950, in Mandan, the first of 12 children born to Val and Doreen (Schaff) Schlosser. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School in 1968. Rodney proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969-1973. He served on the USS Shangri La, having many great opportunities to travel. Following his military service, Rodney worked at area power plants doing cement finishing. He resided in Los Angeles for 15 years, being employed with cement work, which allowed him the chance to work for and meet Bob Hope, Loretta Swit and "Mo" from Night Court.
Rodney will be tenderly remembered as a kind and generous person. He was gentle and soft-hearted. Though Rodney struggled with health from a young age, he conquered his trials with courage. Rodney enjoyed his family.
Rodney's gentle spirit will be forever missed by his parents, Val and Doreen, Mandan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Joyce (Steve) Howry, Mandan, Judy (Ron) Burns, Mandan, and Darcy Cermak, Bismarck; eight brothers and seven sisters-in-law, Darell (Elaine), Glendive, Mont., Tim (Carla), Loveland, Colo., Marvin (Jodi), Mandan, Ernie (Pam), Mandan, Terry, Mandan, Harvey (Nancy), Mandan, Bernie (Susan), Fargo and Scott (Becky), Bismarck; 25 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and his special dog, Joey.
