After finishing high school, he attended Sam Houston College in Huntsville. He played on the football and baseball teams. In the school annual, beneath his senior year picture, was inscribed, "Quiet, but very dependable. He will always get the job done." These words spoke for him throughout his life.

He married Mabel Smith, and they had one daughter, Lester Marie Yeager.

In business, he owned a hardware and gift shop and was a very successful farmer and rancher.

Lester Yeager was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church. He served as Sunday School Superintendent for thirty-one years.

He was a member of the Navasota City commission and served a term as mayor. He was a life member of the Grimes County chamber of Commerce and was president in 1939-1940. He was a building and finance chairman of the Grimes Memorial Hospital as long as he was able to work.

He was a man with many hobbies and interests. He was an avid sports fan. He played golf. He spent many happy hours watching sports events on his TV. He could quote the batting average of many players, and the total yardage gained by many football stars.

He always had a spring and fall garden in his yard. And he had a huge fig tree. He was most generous in sharing his produce with his many friends.

The Yeagers were interested in and very generous to Sam Houston University and to Baylor University. They received many honors from both schools.
