Rosa Green dies at 86
Rosa E. Green, one of the more well-known figures in recent Oregon City history, has died after undergoing surgery at Willamette Falls Hospital.
She died Monday after surgery to remove blood clots from her legs, according to a family spokesman.
Mrs. Green was a constant letter writer, a published author and part-time philosopher whos rememberances appeared many times in the Enterprise Courier.
She had lived in Oregon City since 1915 and between 1918 and the time of her death, more than 680 letters to the editor had appeared in various area newspapers over her name.
"Rose Green's Scrapbook" was published in 1974 and was a collection of articles she had read in various publications.
She was a Sunday school teacher for 25 years and was past president of the Oregon City Chapter of Women's Christian Temperance Union. She also worked as a Republican Party Precinct committeewoman for 10 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Jane Brewer and Leeloris Green, both of Oregon City, and Irene Carl, Hubbard; one son, William Carl Green, Oregon City; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Her family will not conduct a funeral service in her honor, in accordance with her wishes. Family members ask that contributions be made to the Retarded Children's Association.
**** Rosa's father was Oscar H. Neil born near Jamestown, N.Y. April 23, 1862. Oscar married Jennie S. Johnson on September 19, 1888. Oscar was a district school teacher until later in 1893 when he bought a weekly newspaper called "Kenyon Leader" in Kenyon. Minn. & stayed with that the rest of his life. Three children were born to Oscar and Jennie - - Rosa, Clarence & Albert.
