His death notice appeared in the Vermont Journal, Nov. 1, 1862 under the headline, Deaths of Ludlow, VT Soldiers:
"Frederick B. Stickney, of Company I, 2d regiment, died in the hospital at Washington, Sept. 29th, aged about 20. He had been taken prisoner by the rebels, and was so prostrated by hardship, exposure, and starvation that he could not rally after his release. Previous to his enlistment he had been in the family of Mr. Amasa Adams for about five years. We have a pleasant recollection of him as a good Sabbath School Scholar."
