Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. There will be a Catholic Daughter's and Christian Mother's Rosary at 4 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m., followed by a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.
Theodore was born May 10, 1921, in Mandan, the son of Martin and Frances (Kary) Ressler. He was raised and educated in Mandan, graduating from Mandan High School. While in the United States Army during World War II he was at Normandy Beach. Pollie Ferderer and Ted were united in marriage Nov. 13, 1945, in Mandan.
Ted had a boundless energy, a positive attitude and lived life to the fullest. This served him well in his endeavors in work and business ventures. He was CO-owner of the Ten Spot Bowling Alley in Mandan from 1964 to 1983. In later years he became the sole owner. Ted was the co-founder of the Railway Credit Union during which time he was also working at the NPRR, later BNRR as chief clerk, retiring from that in 1981.
As an avid sports fan, watching the Yankees, Lakers and Vikings were among his favorites. He also participated in sports, at age 79 he bowled a score of 279. Though at a younger age, he ran the 100 yard dash in 10.2 seconds and did this without wearing any cleats. Ted and Pollie enjoyed many hours together golfing and dancing the polka and the waltz.
In all of this, central in Ted's life was his family. He would always find time to listen patiently, never criticizing and gave good advice when asked. His grandchildren would get the historical benefit of stories Ted would share recalling in detail about the days of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Pollie, Mandan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Gerald Bernhardt, Mandan, and Paula and Bill Thovson, Fargo; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Wayne Ressler and Mike and Kathy Ressler, all of Bismarck; five grandchildren, Shaylyn and Kyle Bernhardt, Alicia Davis, and Brandon, Ryan and Troy Ressler; and one great-grandchild, Ariana Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and many half brothers and half sisters.
