Samuel Lampkin Moore Proctor was born to John and Mary (Moore) Proctor in Madison, Kentucky in about 1811. He moved to Gallatin, Illinois and married Maria Docker on Feb 2, 1837. Together they had a son, Henry D. Proctor. In 1845, Maria passed away and Samuel remarried Cynthia Cloud on August 27, 1849. Together they had Thomas, Milton, Alexander, Laura, Lille and John.
During the Civil War Samuel served as a Chaplain, fighting for the North. He was a Captain in the Illinois 1st Cavalary.
He was very active in his home county of Gallatin, Illinois, overseeing the construction of bridges and streets. He lived there until his death in 1892.
