US Congressman. He represented Connecticut's First District for one term, 1957 to 1959. After losing his re-election bid in the fall of 1958, he became chairman of the state Republican party. He resigned in 1962 to seek the gubernatorial nomination but Republicans instead backed John Alsop to run against incumbent Democratic governor John Dempsey. He ran for US Senate in 1968, losing to incumbent Abraham Ribicoff. May was attending Wesleyan University when he interrupted his studies to serve as a fighter pilot and instructor with the US Army Air Corp. He returned to Wesleyan after his service, graduating in 1948. In 1952 he was one of three founders of the Insurance City Open, the golf event that would grow into the Greater Hartford Open. Cause of death: Heart attack.
