YOUNG MOTHER
PROVESMARTYR
OF HER FAMILY
Mrs. Elsie M. Heller, 31, Sacrifices Life to Attend Sons & Husband
With the death of Mrs. Elsie Minerva Heller, 31 year-old mother of 6 sons, ranging from 2 to 13 years, comes the story of her brave & courageous fight against the ravages of pneumonia, her defiance of medical instructions in order to serve her stricken husband & 3 sons, all of whom are seriously ill with pneumonia.
The facts reveal the sacrifices of a mother's life for her husband & sons, and the kindness & generosity shown by kind hearted neighbors in the vicinity of Mt. Tabor. Several weeks ago, Mrs. Heller was stricken with pneumonia. She recovered from the illness sufficient to render care & attention to her son, Eugene, who followed her in illness. A few days later, a 2nd son was stricken & shortly after that the mother suffered a relapse & was confined to her bed.
5 Confined To Bed
With 2 sons & the mother seriousmy ill, the husband, crippled in an accident some time ago, developed the same disease & then a 3rd son. 5 members of the family were confined to their beds at 1 time. With this condition prevailing in the Heller household, Mrs. Will Wingert, 70 year old step mother of Mrs. Heller, rushed to the aid of the afflilicted family, only to be stricken herself. She was removed to her home near Goodyear. Neighbors assisted greatly & rendered aid throughout the illness of the mother.
A nurse was called in by neighbors, but the attendant remained 1 night & left. Then the mother, undaunted by the the seriousness of her own condition & enduring her own pain & torture for the welfare of her stricken sons & husband, got out of bed & adminstered to her patients. Household duties &the care and attention required by the ailing members of her family, proved too much for the young mother & she was forced to return to her bed. A 2nd nurse was called last Tuesday & despite her minstrations & the medical attention pf physicians, Mrs. Heller failed to survive her recent attack & she died on Wednesday.
Unaware of Death
The husband & three sons, still in serious condition are not aware of the womsn's death. They have not been informed & the two younger sons cry for their mother all the while the husband & older sons bear their torture silently.
Funeral services for the mother Saturday morning at 9 o'clock from the Bendersville Methodist Episcopal Church, the Rev. A,C, Crone & the Rev, J.S. Pittenger, officiating.
Interment in Bendersville.
Mrs. Heller is survived by her parents, Mr. & Mrs.Will Wingert of Gardners; her husband; 6 sons, Edward, Raymond, James, Junior, Eugene, & Arthur, all at home.
