Edward was a Park Commisioner and President of Carter White Lead Co. Edward graduated from the University of Iowa in 1882, and later from the law department of the same institution, and began a successful law practice at Omaha, Nebraska. He was the City Attorney there for some time, but, becoming interested in the business of certain corporations, particularly the Carter White Lead Company, with headquarters in Montreal, he gradually gave more time to these businesses than to the practice of law.
He puchased a large estate in New York at one point, apparently after his marriage to Selina (Coe) Carter, his second wife.

Edward's first wife was Sarah J. Kenyon. By Sarah he had one daughter, Nettie Roxana Cornish.
