Cyrus served in the Army during World War II as a Medic in front line combat at Anzio Beach, North Africa, Italy, and Germany. Cyrus retired from VA Medical Center and Camelot Nursing Home as an LPN. He always had a passion for serving his country which evolved to all of his sons and grandsons who have also served. He was a good, honest, patriotic, hardworking family man that loved nature and the outdoors and passed these values along to his children. Cyrus was a member of Cave Spring Methodist Church. He was the son of C.J. Carmack Sr. and Amy Falls Carmack. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia E. Thanks to the VVCC for their kindness and care and to his loyal friends that visited him while he was there. Also, a very special thanks to Dr. Bonnie Culkin, that has been a great support to not only Cyrus, but to the entire family. He always enjoyed your company. A celebration of his life will be held at the graveside at Cedar Lawn Cemetery on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Morris. Military Honor Rites will be provided by the D.A.V. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home in Salem.
