Bobbie Joe Hardin was the son of Estus Hardin and Marie Hampton Hardin and was born on September 17, 1943. Tragically, little Bobbie Joe died on November 15, 1944 at the age of 1 year, 1 month and 28 days, in Moulton, Alabama, while his father was overseas. Mr. Hardin was in a hospital in England, recovering from combat wounds sustained from a mortar shell, when he got the letter telling him that the baby had died. He did not receive the news of the baby's death until December. Marie, who was expecting their second child, had to cope with the death of their son while her husband was so far away.
