David’s parents, Saumel and Hannah met in Maryland. They both traveled from Maryland to Stonelick Township and built the Stouder Homestead in Stonelick Towship. They were married June 17, 1813 in Clermont County. From 1814 through 1830, they had ten children, one of which was David.
David was twenty-three when he married Eliza Jane Goodwin May 10, 1845. David’s siblings died, except Sarah, before he was married. Eliza and David had two children, Hannah (1846-1876) and Mary Narcissis (1848-1927). Seven years after David’s marriage to Eliza, she passed away. David had Hannah who was 6 years old and Mary Narcissis who was 3 ½ years old. Later during 1852, David married Mary Catherine Anhatt (1836-1917). At the time they married, David was thirty years old and Mary was sixteen years old. Mary Catherine not only cared for and raised David’s first two children, but she and David had twelve additional children from 1854 to 1879, over a twenty-five year period.
David and Mary Catherine’s children were: Eliza “Lida” (1854-1948), Catherine (1855-1917), Mary C (1856-1948), Elizabeth (1859-), Josephine (1864-), John (1867-1932), Laura (1869-), Corria (1870-), Sarah A (1872-), Earnest (1874-), David E (1875-) and Maggie (1879-).
Through 1845 to 1900 David and his family lived in Stonelick Township, Clermont County Ohio. As he raised his family, David was a cooper and a farmer. A cooper is someone who makes wooden, staved vessels, bound together with hoops and processes the wooden (barrel) with flat ends.
At some point prior to David’s death in 1906, David and Mary moved to Montgomery County Ohio. David’s headstone is found at Warner Cemetery in Montgomery County, Ohio, including the inscription of his wife of fifty-four years, Mary C Stouder (1836-1917). David was eighty-four years at the time of his death.
