His first wife was Martha Unknown-Mennis who died of Cholera in Stockholm, St. Lawrence, NY, 27 Feb 1847.
Also a daughter named Mary Jane. They are buried in Ellis Cemetery, Stockholm, St Lawrence, NY. Located between the cities of Stockholm and Norwood.
William Wallace Mennis was born of this marriage in 1841. 1870 census states his father and mother were of Foreign birth. William Wallace Mennis was a Civil War Veteran and died in a Veterans hospital in Sawtelle, Los Angeles, California, USA. He is buried in National Cemetery, Los Angeles County, California, USA.
The earliest Census I find Samuel is 1830 & 1840 in Stockholm, St. Lawrence, NY, USA, Living by the Barton Family also from Ireland.
Unable to find his arrival date from Ireland.
Samuel then married 20 Sep 1847, Jerusha Joana Post, abt 27 years younger. They had 5 living children.4 boys, 1 girl.
About 1859 the family moved to Paw Paw, De Kalb, Illinois.
The youngest child Etta Emma was born in Illinois when Samuel was 63 years old. Jerusha was abt 32.
1870 Census: (Prairie Pond Post office, Clinton, De Kalb, Illinois, USA)Samuel, Wife Jerusha and daughter Etta Emma were living with Samuel's oldest son, William and Isabella Mennis. He was a retired Farmer value $3,000.
Story is he died in William & Isabella Mennis's home. Jerusha was abt 42 and Etta Emma was 10.

I descend from #3 son Alva Post Mennis.
