She was born in Cherokee County, SC, April 16, 1917, the daughter of the late Fred X. and Mary Sparks Davis.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church, 2112 New House Road, Shelby, NC, followed by a graveside service at Sandy Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.
Doctor Robert Lamb and Doctor Dale Clark will be officiating. Visitation will follow at the Luna Whitaker fellowship hall of the church."

"NEW HOUSE - Mrs. Marian Davis Packard, 91, formerly of New House, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2009, at Summit Place of Mooresville assisted living center.
She was born in Cherokee County, S.C., on April 16, 1917, the daughter of the late Fred X. and Mary Sparks Davis. Mrs. Packard graduated from Mooresboro High School in 1933. She received an Associate's Degree from Gardner-Webb College of Boiling Springs in 1958 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Limestone College of Gaffney, S.C. in 1959. After starting her teaching career, she attended Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory and Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, receiving a Master's Degree from Appalachian in 1966. Her 20-year teaching career included positions in Cleveland County and Shelby school systems. Mrs. Packard was well known and loved in the New House community and was an active member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church. She was involved in numerous community, state and national organizations.
The family's deepest thanks go to the staff of Hospice Palliative Care of Lake Norman and Summit Place of Mooresville for the care given to Mrs. Packard during her stay.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Erskine B. Packard; and son, Joe E. Packard.
She is survived by her son, Jack C. Packard and wife, Martha, of Mooresville; a daughter, Ann P. Ackerman and husband, Michael, of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; grandchildren and their spouses, Deborah Shutt and Grey, Elizabeth Arnold and Ben, Robert Packard and Jennifer, and Christina Allen and Perry; great-grandchildren, Jordan Packard, Allison and Carson Shutt, and William and Jackson Arnold; and nine siblings and their spouses, Hoyle Davis and Blanche and Russell Davis and Mildred, all of Shelby, Leonard Davis and Raye of Mooresboro, Kenneth Davis and Dorothy of Mauldin, S.C., Fred Davis and Rita of Costa Mesa, Calif., Frank Davis and Michi of Moreno Valley, Calif., Nancy Reynolds and Robert of Concord, Mack Davis and Tom Davis and Judy, all of Gaffney.
