Betty Everett was the daughter of Henry Joseph and Susan Gibson (Susie) Mallett Everett of Burnet County, Texas. She married Ben Griffin Alexander here on June 13, 1937, and they were the parents of a daughter, Betty Sue.

ALEXANDER
Betty Alexander, 81, of Burnet, died May 3.

Funeral services were held May 5 at the Edgar Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Darrell Debo officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery.

A native of Burnet County, she was born March 27, 1913, to Henry Everett and Susan Mallett Everett. She attended the rural school at Oak Hill and then Burnet High School where she graduated in 1930. She then attended the University of Texas in Austin for three years and while there, boarded with a family who owned Watson's Floral Shop. She worked in the shop during her time with the family.

After receiving her teaching certificate from UT, she came home and taught at Oak Hill for two years and also substituted at the Bethel School and at Burnet High School. She managed the WPA Sewing Room for two years (1939-1941). For more than 50 years, she was a member of the Bethel Home Demonstration Club serving in every officer's position. Betty served on the Burnet County Council and was among those who worked to get the community center established at Bethel. She also served as a 4-H Club leader and was active in teaching the girls to sew their garments in the right way so that they could be proud of what they had made.

Whatever Betty set out to do, she did it well, in the right way, and always finished whatever task she began. She was interested in family genealogy and was very helpful to those researching the Everett family history. She was also known for her chocolate brownies.

Betty Everett Alexander was a homemaker, a mother, a grandmother, a helpmate and a good friend and neighbor to many. She was never too busy to help out someone who needed her assistance.

Survivors include her husband, Ben Alexander of Burnet; one daughter, Betty Sue of Burnet; one sister, Annie Belle Reavis of Oakalla; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
