MARRS, NELLE BLAKEMORE -- was born to the Reverend and Mrs. Loren E. Blakemore in Hayden, New Mexico on May 5, 1913 where they served on a Presbyterian Mission Field; she was the second of six children. She died January 19, 1995 in Knoxville, Tenn. She grew up in Arkansas, where she attended Scranton High School and the College of the Ozarks, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in religious education in 1934. Later she attended the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Omaha, Neb. In 1936, Nelle married Charles B. Marrs, who had graduated from Union Theological Seminary. Their first pastorate was in Reardan, Wash. In 1939, they returned to Arkansas to serve the Presbyterian Church at Mountainburg. They served churches in Missouri at Dexter and Nevada, and spent the last 27 years of their ministry at the Van Brunt Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. They retired in September 1978 to Harrison, Ark. Nelle has been a widow since 1983. She has lived with her sister, Dr. Robbie G. Blakemore since August 1994. Nell's daughter, Dr. Judith Blakemore Marrs Pitts predeceased her in September 1994. She is survived by her son, [living] Marrs of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four granddaughters, [living] Marrs, California, [living] Marrs, Oregon, [living] Pitts Gilstrap, Ark., [living] Pitts, Kansas; great-grandchild, [living] Marrs; daughter-in-law, [living] Marrs; son-in-law [living] Pitts; one brother, Glenn A. Blakemore, Wichita, Kansas; and two sisters, Robbie G. Blakemore, Knoxville, Tenn., and Mrs. Lorena Fraley, Shafter, Calif. She leaves nieces and nephews in California, Kansas, and New Jersey. Burial will be in Harrison, Ark. at the Maplewood Cemetery. Memorial services Thursday, January 26 at 4 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church with Dr. Edmund Carver officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel.
