Deceased Name: Eugene Galvagni Sr., 90, World War II veteran

Sunday, September 30 PITTSFIELD — Eugene P. Galvagni Sr., 90, of 334 Merrill Road died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Lee on March 21, 1917, son of Giovanni and Rosa Galvagni Galvagni, he attended schools in Lee and Pittsfield.

An Army veteran of World War II, he fought in the Bismarck Archipelago and Luzon campaigns and received several medals.

Mr. Galvagni was employed by General Electric Co. as a painter for 30 years, retiring from the former power transformer department in 1980. Before that, he was employed as a painter for C.M. Farrell Co. and Renzi Bros.

He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' club, VFW Post 448, American Legion Post 68 and the Berkshire County Deputy Sheriff's Association, and a former member of Unico of Pittsfield. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, picking mushrooms and gardening.

His wife, the former Edith M. Cavallo, whom he married Oct. 18, 1941, at Mount Carmel Church, died Nov. 29, 2004.

He leaves three sons, Eugene P. Galvagni Jr., Robert J. Galvagni Sr. and David R. Galvagni Sr., all of Pittsfield; a brother, Victor Galvagni of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Diane L. Webb, died March 21, 2004.

FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Eugene P. Galvagni Sr., who died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial with full military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. He was the father-in-law of Kathleen Doyle, Debra S. Galvagni, Debra A. Galvagni and Douglas R. Webb. He was predeceased by three brothers, Aldo L., Bruno A. and Caesar Galvagni.
