Mrs. Nettie Morris Dies at Home Here
Mrs. Nettie Hughes Morris, 72, died Saturday evening after a short illness at the home of her daughter. Mrs. William Meikle, Okanogan avenue.
Mrs. Morris has been known throughout this district as a teacher, having taught in Monitor and Cashmere, and as a club woman. She was a member of the ladies Musical club and of the Arts and Crafts and the Tourists Literary departments of the Wenatchee Woman's club. Almost all of her life she had been an active member of the Methodist church and for many years was treasurer of the Women's Home Missionary society. For the past six years she had made her home with Mrs. Meikle.
Born Sept 11, 1866, at Carlinville, Ill., she moved with her parents to Burnet, Tex., as a child. Her father died there in 1872 and she went to Carlinville to live with an aunt and uncle, Mr. & Mrs. George R. Hughes. She was graduated from the high school there and, when she was 16 went to Kansas to teach school. On Jan. 4, 1886, she was married to James W. Morris in Cheyenne, Wyo. He died in 1911 in Nebraska.
After his death, she attended the Nebraska state teachers college and in 1914 she came to Ellensburg where she was graduated from the normal school the following year. She was a teacher for 28 years in Kansas, Nebraska, Oregon and Washington.
Surviving are two children, Mrs. Meikle and Claud S. Morris of Franklin, Neb. A son, Earl Leon, died in infancy. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Cora (unable to read) of Smith Center, Kan., and Mrs. Lee Mercer of Cozad, Neb., one brother, George Hughes of Norton, Kan.; two grandchildren, Val Jean and C. Stanley Morris of Los Angeles. The body is at the Hennessy mortuary, which will announce the funeral arrangements.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie H. Morris, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Hennessy mortuary chapel, with the Rev. W. B. Young officiating. Don Isenhart will sing, accompany by Kenneth Werner at the organ. Buried is to be made in the Evergreen Memorial cemetery.
