Peter Garriets Hagen died last Friday at 4:15 a.m. at the home of his son, George Hagen, in Scotch Grove. Mr. Hagen, who was 71 years old had been in ill health for nine years and seriously ill the last year.
Funeral service was held Monday at the Wayne Lutheran church with Rev. F.H. Kehren reading the service and Smykil Home for Funerals, Anamosa, in charge. Interment was in Wayne cemetery
Mr. Hagen was born on Sept 30, 1870, in Klein-Ostiem Grandduchy of Oldenburg, Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Menno Hagen. Baptized in infancy, he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Peter came as a small boy with his parents to Monticello. Family commenced farming in Castle Grove Township and later moved to Langworthy.
Peter was married to Elizabeth Kellogg on Nov. 18, 1898. Two children were born, George F. Hagen, and a daughter, now Mrs. Herman F. Harms. Both children were at his bedside at the time of his death.
Mr. Hagen lived at Langworthy from 1936 to 1941. He was a member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran church and served as church treasurer. He also was a township trustee
Survivors are his son, George, Scotch Grove, and daughter, Mrs. Harms, Poughkeepsie, NY; a brother, Fred Hagen, and Sister Dena Hagen, both of Hopkinton.
