Clinton P. Allen

Among the well known residents of Clintonville for many years past few have been longer with us than the one who was suddenly called from this life last Saturday, Clinton P. Allen, aged 74.
The end came most unexpectedly, although he had not been well for time past, as he was on his way to Keeseville, driving his horse and sleigh. Within a few minutes after he left home he was seen to fall forward in the gutter and was found dead when friends reached him.
The family was among tbe old settlers of this region and of him it is said that he was a great-grandson of John Allen, and grandson of Joseph Allen, who were among the early settlers of Allen Hill. The farm that he purchased was not at Cllntonvllle but about live miles from that village.
About one hundred and twenty years ago, or nearly fifty years before Clinton Allen was born, John Allen and his ten sons came over from Vermont to the town of Peru settled on what has ever since been called Allen Hill.
The funeral services were held from his late residence Tue afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Mr. Cubit of Ausable Forks officiated at the ceremony.
The bearers were Dr. William Thwaits. T. J. Timlale, Frank Havens, Joseph LaMountain, John Thwaits and James Dougherty. Interment was in the family plot In Cllntonvile cemetery.
