SALEM - Esther Garrett, 92, of 1522 Shady Lane died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at her home where she had been cared for by her family the past two years.

Mrs. Garrett was born February 25, 1917 in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Howard and Inez Montgomery Nahar and had lived in the Salem and Columbiana area all of her life.

Esther was a homemaker and a member of First Friends Church of Salem.

Her first husband, Robert Clifford Holland, whom she married in 1942 died December 26, 1953. Her second husband Albert Leroy Garrett is also deceased.

She is survived by two sons, Richard B. (Annie) Holland of Salem and William (Virginia) Holland of East Palestine; a grandson, John (Jennifer) Holland of Hilliard, a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Holland; a cousin, Vivian Fitzsimmons of New Waterford; and her friend and neighbor, Albert Linder of Salem.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Reese and three brothers, Duane, Robert, and Paul Nahar.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the First Friends Church of Salem with Pastor John Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the Warrick-Kummer-Rettig Funeral Home, Columbiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Material tributes may be made to the church memorial fund.
